Staffordshire Moorlands has been replaced by the South Oxfordshire in a recycling and composting survey conducted by letsrecycle.com. A survey was conducted on the top-performing councils in England's last financial year (2010/11).

According to the survey South Oxfordshire tops the recycling table with 70.56% recycling and composting rate, which is followed by its closest rival Rochford with 65.46%. Whereas Surrey Heath borough council, has been placed in third position with a recycling rate of 64.73%.

According to another news source, South Cambridgeshire has increased the recycling and composting rate by seven percents from October 2010 to March 2011. Moreover, the members of East Cambridgeshire, has shown the most concerned attitude by planning to review their current waste collection and street cleansing services. To ease and encourage the recycling process, council is looking forward to open a new centre for house hold waste recycling outside Witchford.

Taipei 101 has received the award for being world's tallest green building on Thursday. The US Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded it the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) platinum certification from the globally recognized green building ranking system.

Taiwan’s Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building from 2004-07 and now it has remarkably achieved the target of world’s tallest green building, for which it had started working on, in the year 2009. Taipei has saved $1.25million USD and has successfully managed to reduce its carbon footprint annually.

Few other famous green buildings are Bank of America Tower at One Byrant Park New York, India Tower Mumbai, San Francisco Civic Tower and Masdar Abu Dhabi.

As you're probably aware, GreenTech's state of the art factory and offices are based in the city of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. We recently learned that the government and the Environment Agency has agreed to controversial plans to allow 250,000 tonnes of nuclear waste a year to be dumped into the landfill site at nearby King's Cliffe.

Locals fear the King's Cliffe site may become a dumping ground for other nuclear facilities in the future.

Thankfully, the waste contains predominantly low level radiation, so is unlikely to cause any health consequences to Peterborough residents or GreenTech staff working at the Peterborough site. We pride ourselves on our commitment to recycling and, while we may not be able to re-use nuclear waste, we can certainly recycle your used toner cartridges and keep them out of landfill.

Connect Plus, the consortium tasked with upgrading and maintaining the M25, has started the trial of the UK’s first zero-emission grid-connected solar streetlights in South Mimms, Hertfordshire.

Depending upon the success, these SunMast ‘eco streetlights’ are expected to reduce the carbon footprint of street lighting by 120% per cent.

“SunMast uses a series of photovoltaic (PV) panels integrated into the body of the mast to convert daylight to electricity. An inverter in the base of the mast converts the electricity from DC to AC and it is then exported back to the national grid, effectively becoming a distributed solar energy system. When night falls, the street lights are then powered from the grid in the normal way,” says ClickGreen.

Peterborough City Council has recorded the largest decrease in household waste over the last year. The total household waste sent for landfill in 2009/10 was 81,109 tonnes, 11.1% less compared to the last year’s statistics.

A report on Municipal Waste Statistics 2009/10 from Defra (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) also finds a 2.1% increase in England’s recycling rates. Rugby and South Oxfordshire where ranked as biggest improving councils with a rate of 18.8% and 18.6% respectively.

Toner cartridge recycling has been adopted by many large charities for fund-raising in the past couple of years. But for small, local charities it can be tricky setting up schemes that earn enough money. One exception to that is GreenTech which has paid more than £50,000 to charities in 2010.

The top three charities that received donation last year by using our toner cartridge recycling services are based in Surrey (£18350), Norfolk (£14431), and Warwickshire (£12607).

Revealing GreenTech's future plans, CEO Sohail Sethi said "We are soon launching our new and enhanced recycling website that will include an option for the recyclers to donate some or the entire amount they can earn from toner cartridge recycling directly to a charity of their own choice."

GreenTech help charities set up a cartridge recycling program for easy fund-raising. They can simply add a web link (http://www.gtrecycling.com/recycle) on their site and ask their supporters to donate rather than receive the monies they receive for recycling toner cartridges.

We've had a great last year as we launched a number of new recycled and remanufactured printer cartridges, an online recycling cash calculator on our website and moved to a bigger recycling factory, with quadruple the space for stock and a faster more efficient recycling production process. Moreover, we increased the cash payouts and now pay up to £12 each when you recycle toner cartridges.

In 2010, GreenTech have paid hundreds of recyclers, tens of thousands of pounds for recycling toner cartridges. The average recycler got paid £75.61 per courier pick-up. Here are few interesting statistics about GreenTech's recycling toner cartridges program.

• A Kids charity in Birmingham earned £555 with just a single batch of cartridges.
• One recycler sent us a new batch of empty toner cartridges 34 times during the year.
• A college in Nottinghamshire earned £904 by recycling toner cartridges; they sent us 7 batches throughout the year.
• An animal sanctuary in Oxfordshire got paid £362 for recycling toner cartridges.

GreenTech are now paying businesses and offices, up to £2 to recycle each franking machine cartridge. Our new recycling website shows how much we will pay for over 45 empty franking machine cartridges, when they are recycled through the scheme. Customers get a cheque in the post within 14 days when the cartridges have been inspected.

Visitors to our recycling website just need to enter their franking machine cartridge numbers and the website will show how much we will pay. We even send a courier to come pick them up from the customer's offices, all for free.

When the franking machine cartridges have been inspected at our recycling facility in Peterborough, we will check if they are in good enough condition to be recycled and remanufactured for resale. Customers will get a cheque in the post within 14 days. The courier pick-up service is free and we even send you the labels to stick on your box(es) of cartridges.

GreenTech CEO, Sohail Sethi, explained that the prices of empty franking machine cartridges vary with demand. The most popular franking machine cartridges this week are Neopost IJ-30, IJ-65 and IJ-25 Original Blue, and Neopost IJ-25, IJ-30 and IJ-65 Original Red. Getting paid to recycle - More happy recyclers this week

We've been speaking again to many of our new recyclers who have been sending us their empty printer cartridges ready for recycling at our factory here in Peterborough.

A couple of recyclers had problems finding their cartridges on the GreenTech website so we are investigating these problems. Don't forget to call the GreenTech Recycling Helpdesk if you need some help or have any problems with the website.

98.5% of our recycled and remanufactured cartridges were perfect in December

We ran our regular printer cartridge quality report and found that 98.5% of GreenTech remanufactured cartridges were perfect in December 2009, with the remaining 1.5% found to be faulty. That's up from July's 97.2%.

Industry average faulty rates for remanufactured cartridges usually fall between 3% and 5% so we are pleased with this result, but not complacent. Like Toyota our quality target is 100%, all of the time. So we have again been busy redesigning elements of our recycling process and aim to achieve 99% for January and February.  We are very happy to show you the results (customer privacy assured, of course), just let us know and we will send you a summary report.

We have recently increased production of our top 4 HP remanufactured cartridges. Demand for these HP remanufactured cartridges is consistently and considerably higher than all other HP cartridges.

New name for ‘Remanufactured’ – HP trial due to start next week

We are always talking to end-consumers and during conversations with several end consumers last month we found that a large percentage can often be confused by the words ‘Remanufactured’. Many end consumers (both home and business customers) found the term off-putting and said it sounded more like a ‘trade/industrial’ word. Some said this lessened their confidence in purchasing. So to put this research to the test we are running a trial with some of our customers’ websites and trying a new name; 'Recycled Original'. Watch this space for the results and we’ll tell you if sales/perceptions have significantly been improved.

Faster cartridge replacement and returns

We have implemented a new returns process to streamline the way our product returns are processed. In the unfortunate event your customer has a faulty cartridge we can offer an advance replacement using our new 'Swap-it' service where the customer will have a new cartridge delivered and the faulty one collected at the same time. Alternatively, if you have returns at your premises we will arrange a free courier collection and aim to process the returns within 5 working days.
