Rewards When You Recycle | Bribery Encourages Children to Recycle

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

The importance of recycling is a difficult concept to teach to children. Too young to understand the environmental and economical benefits, children tend to opt for the easy option of just throwing things away, and even some adults have difficulty grasping the idea of re-use, reduce and recycle. So how do you teach them?

Recycling by the Numbers [Infographic]

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Here’s a great infographic from The New Ecologist that has some stats showing how much money can be saved if people start recycling and replacing original products with recycled ones. It also lists top 5 recycling countries and what different countries and regions are doing for going green.

According to the infographic, “20 million tons of electronic waste is thrown away each year. One ton of scrap from discarded computers contains more gold than can be produced from 17 tons of gold ore.”

Beijing has built the world’s largest recycling facility and hopes to increase their recycling rate from 10% to 80%.

The UK recycles around 17.7% of its waste that is far less compared to Austria that recycles approximately 60% of its waste.

Toner Cartridge Recycling: How Recycling is a Simple Way to Earn Quick Money

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

About 55 million empty toner cartridges fill the landfill sites every year in the UK. Toner cartridge recycling lets you earn money from something you have already used and want to get rid of. Every empty toner cartridge is worth at least 50p on average if you recycle it. That means if you start recycling today you can claim a share of about £27.5 million each year.

How Can You Make Quick Money with Toner Cartridge Recycling?

You can recycle printer cartridges at GreenTech. We have been running an inkjet and laser printer cartridge recycling scheme for the last 10 years in the UK. We pay up to £12 cash for each empty toner cartridge. Toner cartridge recycling at GreenTech gives you the following benefits:

  • Instant display of the price of your empty toner cartridge when you enter your toner cartridge no. or short code to know the value of your empty toner cartridges
  • Free courier pick-up if your cartridges are worth £20 or more
  • Payment by cheque within 14 working days
  • No registration to see the price of your empty toner cartridges, a simple form to fill-in to arrange the free courier pick-up

4. We’ll then send your payment by bank transfer or cheque within 14 working days.

How Much Could My Charity Earn From Recycling Inkjet and Toner Cartridges?

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Many charities see inkjet and laser toner cartridge recycling as a relatively simple way of fundraising. One recent research study found that a medium-sized business can use between 75 and 200 cartridges per year, or even more. So let’s say the fundraising team manages to persuade 10 local businesses to ‘donate’ their empty laser toner cartridges, they can expect about 100 x 10 = 1000 cartridges which at an average of £1.50 would raise funds of £1500.

This calculation, of course, does not include all the empty inkjet and laser toner cartridges individuals could be donating too. But it’s already a pretty significant sum and one that any charity would be happy to accept.
How much do GreenTech pay?

GreenTech have paid thousands of pounds to charities for recycling inkjet and toner cartridges. Even our top recycler in 2010 so far has also been a one-woman charity in Surrey that has been paid £1019.70. Here’s a list of top 10 charities that have been paid for recycling in 2010 so far.

When you can’t recycle something, upcycle it. This is true especially for clothes as we told you about festival jackets and bags made from upcycled tents and an upcycled origami dress made from a thousand newspaper cranes. Well, a Herefordshire based company called Re-jigged has turned that into a business as they convert unwearable clothes into children’s clothing. (more…)

Running a printer cartridge recycling and collection scheme can be a time-consuming business.

It can be a bit messy too. When recycling and packing up the old printer cartridges sometimes the ‘not-quite-empty’ inkjet and toner cartridges can leak. It’s OK when it’s a small number of cartridges, every now and then, but if you are running a big collection scheme for your school or charity then it can be quite a pain.

We think we’ve come up with the answer to these problems and instead of encouraging you to run a collection scheme yourself we suggest you simply encourage your supporters to send their cartridges direct to us.

Simply by promoting our inkjet and toner cartridge recycling scheme on your charity and school website, and in your email newsletters, fund-raisers can generate the same amount of funds but without any of the hassle.

We arrange free courier pick-up from all your supporters, be they from parents, friends or local companies.

All you need to do is add a link on your website and emails to our website here http://www.gtrecycling.com/recycle .

Your school or charity will get paid the full amount that your supporter donates. All they need to do is fill in the form on our website, with your organisation’s name and we take care of the rest. You can also easily add this link to your Facebook Fan Pages/Linked-in profiles, even your blog, Twitter pages and more.

We’re a small but growing toner and inkjet cartridge recycling company in Peterborough and are having a big year since launching our online recycling cash calculator, on our website here; http://www.gtrecycling.com/recycle .

Our recyclers are saying nice things about the website since we display an ‘instant’ price we pay for their empty cartridges. And my colleagues here on the GreenTech Recycling Helpdesk are doing a good job organising free pick-up of their cartridges and then sending payments to all our recyclers and charities/schools within 14 days.  (more…)

Study Confirms Recycling Cardio Pacemakers is Safe

Study Confirms Recycling Cardio Pacemakers is Safe

Recycling old gadgets and electrical items not only saves the environment but also help you save and in many cases earn some money. However, surgical gadgets have not been traditionally considered to be recyclable and safe. Researchers at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center are examining the legality and basic logistics of recycling pacemakers after they have been removed from a deceased person.

Pacemakers are used to correct a slow heart beat, which may be the result of a previous heart attack or old age. According to the researchers, one to two million people of the world die each year due to lack of access to pacemakers. Despite the very high demand and manufacturers reducing the cost, pacemakers still cost around US$800 (around £500), which is still more than the annual income of the average worker in underdeveloped countries.
