Sell/Buy Industrial Waste – New Waste ‘Matchmaking’ Service
In an earlier post we told you about various examples where waste is being turned in to energy. Here’s another example of industrial waste being reused by other companies that find the waste useful.
A US-based company RecycleMatch (touted as the first and only internet marketplace dedicated to matching companies that have waste with companies that can use the materials productively) aims “to create an industrial ecosystem in which the use of energy and materials are optimised, waste is minimised, and there is an economically viable role for every product of a manufacturing process.”
How It Works?
Companies that have waste to dispose off list their items for free on the website, which accepts almost everything except equipment, trucks, salvage or other capital assets. The listing company’s name is kept confidential, but other RecycleMatch users can see item descriptions and photos of the materials listed along with the quantities available and their location.
When some other company is interested to use those materials and the owner agrees, a match is made. The owner then pays RecycleMatch a fee of USD 10 (£6.4) per ton for a period of up to three years plus a one-time match fee of USD 1,500 (£957.4). The buyer pays a one-time finder’s fee of USD 250 (£159.6). Users can also post “wanted” listings on the site for a one-time fee of USD 500 (£319.1).
According to the RecycleMatch, more than 1.36 million kilograms of waste materials have already been diverted from landfills.
